Two Weeks UnNotice

"Yahoo! Messenger with Voice is so cool!", says my grandma (ofcourse, this is translated from Gujarati), as she was voice-chatting away all morning while she was cooking at the same time. Grandpa loved it too, "Bluetooth headset rocks with voice chat! How do they fit in all this kind of stuff in such a small thing?" Ofcourse, grandpa likes these new gadgets but he is unwilling to use them. "No not me!" Pointing at Grandma, "Let her keep talking! I am happy to see her chatter to someone else" :) So, clearly, grandpa and grandma looks like they love new technology, which is also helping them connect with their loved ones with such ease.

Grandpa and Grandma were with me for a couple of weeks last month. So, I thought of showing their regular Indian soaps at my place. But how? After pimping my Xbox, I hardly got a chance to use it. Fortunately, I got an opportunity last week when I realised I could, in no way, get Indian cable from Dish TV for a negotiable price. I wasn't too keen on buying the expensive dish for this International package and the installation and cancellation charges were just killing me! So, not to deprive senior citizens of their rights to watch total drama-baazi Indian K-soaps, I thought of getting them from the Web. I found a few on a forums website and the next thing I knew, I transferred them on my Xbox and like a Tivo, I could show these K-soaps to grandpa and grandma. I was amazed at this entire new way of using the Web, TV and Xbox for watching different things. They could take mazaa from the shows without ads and that too, at a push of the button. The quality of some shows were really pathetic though. When will desis think of having huge hard drives, Raids and servers to upload quality movies? Still, granny grandpa were glad that most of their afternoons didn't go in boring stares at Jerry Springer show or the blurry channel showing Judge Mathis. Technology, once again, helped me out (or rather, the grandfolks)!

By the way, seeing these K-soaps after a few years, I felt that their standard is almost the same (different masala stories though) but C.I.D. (Desi CSI) has improved quality in dialogues (for a change, I did find some one-liners funny) and even has a pretty face in their team. Ofcourse, grandpa+ma had to leave this Monday; so this was also the last one we saw.

So, now that they have left, I am catching up on other things. Like cooking, doing my own chores and avoiding bollywood movies! After getting saturated with all Paresh Rawal movies (watch Golmaal though! its funny!), I welcomed a change with 'City of God' - a story on bhais (hoods). Lil' Ze steals the show in it. Highly Recommended (its in Portuguese, use English subtitles).
