FEAR me!!!
Yesterday, I had been to a new Walmart which is very close to our home. The very reason we went there was to save time (and the gas money!) but little did I know that my credit card would become my own enemy.
A couple of days back, I received a new credit card from Bank of America (BoA) with some great perks (0% APR, mini keychain card etc). I activated that very night and kept it in my wallet as my primary card. I thought it would be great if I start using from day 1. I took it out at Walmart to pay my bill. Knight Rider theme was running in background. Cam and I were happy that we finished our grocery early and only the payment is left. That's when the trouble started. The Walmart cashier got a white slip. Said, "His identity needs to be checked, call us!" She immediately called her manager. The manager looked at me with some suspicion. She told me to wait with our cart at the cashier while she discusses about my card with BoA. I offered her my other credit card but I think that led to further suspicion cuz they thought I might have stolen the BoA card. Waited for 5 minutes. Then, BoA wanted to talk with me. They put me on with two departments, one of them was their security department. That female on the phone asked me everything from my SSN to phone number, address and even asked silly questions like are you shopping at walmart, how long do you have this card with you, is your bill $XXX.XX? They were actually doing security check more than what they do at the airport! LOL! It was actually funny but you know what I should have done. I should have doubted their identity. I should have told them why should I believe that they are BoA. They may be fraud. Anyways, if anyone else troubles me like this, they are going to face the consequences. I understand it was for my security but then, what the Walmart people did was way beyond my imagination.
I went to the cashier and signed on their digital pad. The cashier asked for my identity. Again? I mean didn't I just proved on phone that I am the person using this card? Then, after checking my identity, they asked me to sign on another receipt. I was out of my mind. Cam was getting frustrated. After that, she looked kind of satisfied. I wasn't. If this is for my protection, I don't need the protection. This is not protection; they were simply afraid of me. I remembered Bowling for Columbine. Thank god they didn't put guns on my face. Hehe. That would be interesting. I am just kidding but I think some measures are exaggerated and needs to be changed. Anyways, I am glad I came out innocent :)
